Missionary Support International- Indonesia Trip 2019
Dear Friends and Family,
It has been over 3 decades since I have traveled to Indonesia. I was filled with anticipation and excitement. This was Lori’s first trip abroad.
On February 17, 2019, we were supposed to flight from Phoenix to LA then on to Hong Kong to spend the night before ending out trip in Jakarta. But, we were delayed and had to spend the night in Los Angeles before we flew across the Pacific Ocean. Our flight was rerouted from LA to Tokyo, Japan. We landed and after a rush to the next flight, we boarded our plane to Jakarta, Indonesia. We arrived at midnight and were greeted by my Uncle Bill Myers and others from Tel-A-Village Ministries.
In all of the excitement, 2 of our small bags were left at the airport. When we realized this possible tragedy 3 hours later, we prayed and asked the Lord to help us find out bags. We quickly took a cab back to the airport. Those two backpacks contained our passports, credit cards, ID’s and necessary cash for 2 weeks abroad. We hoped for the best. When we walked into the airport parking lot, we found that our bags were being protected by 2 parking lot attendants. We looked inside and realized that NOT ONE THING WAS MISSING! WE KNEW THAT GOD HAD JUST WORKED A MIRACLE! Oh, what a Savior!
The next day, we visited Tel-A-Village’s production studio where the programming is prepared for the ministry. It was so impressive. Then, we rested up for an overnight flight to Biak, Papua – which started our nonstop itinerary of ministry.
Arriving in Biak at 6 a.m., we traveled 2+ hours to our first of 5 villages that day. Each little village greeted us with a celebration of our arrival and a dedication ceremony. There were children singing and rejoicing as we presented the elder of the village with a satellite dish transponder that would enable them to watch Christian programming especially designed for children. The joy and gratefulness of the children was priceless. We arrived back at the hotel after dark, quickly ate supper and then headed off to bed.
The next day was much like the day before; traveling by car on the mountainous roads by 7 a.m. with 4 more villages to visit along – with my being honored to teach at a seminar to equip local pastors.
Our days were filled with ministry from dawn to late evening – singing, teaching, and preaching. Lori ministered to a large group of women and shared her testimony. God really moved in their hearts as she taught on Proverbs 31 and the virtues of womanhood.
Meanwhile, that same day, I ministered at a pastor’s seminar that the enemy tried to cancel. In this remote village, there was a virgin sacrifice of a young girl the night before. Hearing this, we were sickened by the evil that takes place in secret. We had to do something. Threats were made against anyone coming to the seminar the next day. When we arrived that morning, we began praying over the leaders from the Word of God to thwart this demonic oppression that was pitted against the whole village. The leaders were so grateful to be prayed for. They showed their appreciation with fresh fruit and handmade purses. By the end of the day, the church was filled with church leaders who would not be overcome by this fearful tactic of Satan. PRAISE THE LORD!
The next morning, we traveled to Manado, Sulewesi to view a potential site for Tel-A-Village to build a permanent television studio, We have just learned that they are proceeding with this project and surely need our prayers and financial support to complete it.
In the final days of our trip, we traveled back to the island of Java, which is about 2 hours from Jakarta, for 2 days of ministry in Bogor. We ministered and sang at an evening service in the city. Then, early in the morning, we got up and traveled 2 more hours to a Bible school that trains its students to plant churches and equip their congregations for ministry. They were so hungry to hear the Word of God. 120 students came forward for prayer to be called into ministry. Lori and I got to lead a few songs in English. The presence of the Lord was so sweet. It was a very humbling and special day for us.
This newsletter could easily be 10 pages longer with all that took place during our trip. In total, we ministered to 9 villages, 5 churches creating life long memories for us and them. We are so thankful for the opportunities that MSI has been able to be a part of. Thank you to all of our partners and churches that have joined with us in this journey. Your support and prayers have meant the world to us!
UNTIL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS!!
